The best time to walk in the light.

Since 2002, LICHTROUTEN has been the light art festival of the city of Lüdenscheid and one of the first curated light festivals in Europe. Spread across the city center, an art trail is created that invites you to take a stroll through the city in the evening hours. There have been eight editions of LICHTROUTEN so far. Each edition has attracted up to 50,000 visitors to Lüdenscheid.

With an extensive exhibition program, performances and hybrid art formats, LICHTROUTEN offers a very special insight into current artistic productions with light and light-based media. 

The festival focuses on changing themes that illuminate the interfaces between artistic practice, technological development and social reality. “New energies": this is the theme of next year's LICHTROUTEN. Pointing the way - for the selection of locations and artistic positions.
